Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is state-of-the-art treatment for the management of dental biofilm. It allows the dental hygienist to deliver effective, pain free, professional tooth cleaning for all ages.
GBT transforms the patient experience by exchanging old school methods of tooth cleaning, known as scaling and polishing, and instead, uses this revolutionary system that offers our patients optimal hygiene care. To do this, the hygienist uses a combination of Airflow®, Perioflow® and Piezo® technology.
GBT is the advanced way of delivering dental hygiene treatment. GBT is a minimally invasive and gentle therapy which includes the combination of air, powder and warm water, giving a thorough dental clean which is safe for use on tooth enamel, gums, dental restorations, dental implants, bridges, crowns veneers and braces.
GBT will also help those patients who want to remove the stains from tea, coffee, wine and tobacco from their teeth.
Our teeth are covered in a sticky colourless film of bacteria, also now identified as dental biofilm. If not removed regularly, biofilm builds up around the area between the tooth and the gums, the biofilm undergoes maturity, which may result in gum disease.
The bacteria in the dental biofilm can also break down tooth enamel. When dental biofilm is met with sugary foods and drinks in the mouth, over time, it can cause tooth decay.
Mature Biofilm formation can lead to dental decay, gum and implant infections. Gum disease can increase the risk of systemic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory disease and arthritis.
By carrying out a good daily oral hygiene regime at home that includes brushing, interdental cleaning and regular visits to your dental hygienist for professional cleanings, usually between 3-6 months, GBT can help you keep dental biofilm under control and therefore promotes a better oral and systemic health.
Visiting the dental hygienist regularly plays a vital role in keeping your teeth and gums healthy. Our hygienist is fully committed to helping our patients look after their teeth for life. You will be given expert oral hygiene advise which will always be tailored to your individual needs.
Endodontics is also better known as Root Canal Treatment. Root Canal Treatment becomes necessary when the nerve of a tooth becomes irreversibly damaged, and therefore has to be surgically removed.
A Prosthodontist undertakes the process of rebuilding or replacement of missing teeth. They are trained to deal with the aesthetic and functional challenges that replacement of teeth present.
Periodontal disease affects the gums, bone and other supporting tissues of the teeth. Most individuals suffer gum inflammation from time to time, around 10% of the population appear to suffer from the more severe forms.
